Joy is having a girlfriend who has been ill stop by your new shop unexpectedly

Joy is feeling the love, warmth and gratitude

as you watch your girlfriend and your daughter caught up in a “catching up” conversation.

Joy is understanding and perceiving in one glance that

your girlfriend is flashbacking to the time when her sweater swallowed your tee tiny daughter at the age of 2….and now 20 years laters, you both realize this once small person has become this awesome young and beautiful woman.

Joy is watching your friend’s eyes tear up

because we all three understand that we climbed a lot of hills and valleys and still

“made it over”

Joy is having two more folk drop by unexpectedly, one of which is a favorite dance teacher,

and instantaneously, all folk present spring into a funky acapella version of “Sister” a song from the movie “The Color Purple”…… and the harmonies are so intact that “evahbody” in the room gets goosebumps.

Joy is watching your daughter blossom while she multitasks making Italian Panini sandwiches, ringing up the sales, studying for her exams, greeting customers in French, German, Swiss German and Italian, and smiling while doing so.

Joy is waking up at 6:00 a.m., getting in a stretching and yoga breathing routine, throwing clothes in the machine, airing out the beds, and still having enough time to subtly paint the canvas which is my face.

Joy is enjoying that wonderful cafe latte before the hectic hours begin.

Joy is driving to work and coincidentally having a little boy wave to me from the back of a  bus.

Joy is having the sun warm the small portion of my back.

Joy is having folk return a smile.

Joy is knowing that your presence helps someone feel better about themselves and about their purpose.
